Over the weekend, I started with OutSkirts Press to publish my book. I am currently on the book cover section. The site isn't too difficult to follow, however, I am having a few technical issues with the step I am on. Hopefully it will be able to be fixed so I can move to the next step!!! I'm so excited to get my book published! :)

Createspace didn't work out for me. It cost too much money. I started contacting publishers directly and thought I had found the perfect one. The publisher sent my manuscript for review to a review board. After a few days I received a phone call that it was accepted and a contract was emailed to me to read. It was through page publishing. It seemed legitimate until I got into costs. It was going to cost me about $3,000 dollars for basic publishing. Advertisements and marketing would cost another $7,000. My final decision is to publish through outskirts publishing. It costs $200 for a basic option and $400 for a little better option. I am going with the $400 and see what happens.

Over the weekend I went to a craft/fall event in Annapolis, MD. I met an author that used the company CreateSpace. My next step to publishing is to use that website and see where it leads. The local artist in Annapolis said it was the best decision they made. The cover looked great and the book was formatted well.

It's been a while since my last post. I've met publishers and costs are between 400 and 3000 dollars. The next step is getting a copyright from the copyright office near Alexandria, VA. Then I am going to look into a local publisher.

I sent out massive amounts of query letters to agents, only to be rejected by almost every one immediately. I sent my book to Tate Publishing and it was accepted but the upfront fee is $3,990. Being a college student, I am unable to afford that amount so I have to start looking for other options. Since December, I have started writing a romance novel and when it is finished I will try to get that one publishes as well and maybe once it would be published the first book would have a better chance. I will keep trying though because it is important to

I have gotten a lot of rejection letters and the 2 that wanted to read more of my book turned it down. The one agency told me that they considered my book more of a middle grade fiction book, so that is where I have gone wrong. I have switched gears and started sending letters to other types of agencies. Wish me luck!

I have been busy with writing and sending letters through both email and postal mail. I have gotten the interest of 2 publishers at the moment that requested part of my manuscript. I've gotten 7 out of 13 "nos" so far but I have started with New York agencies first. If I get turned down by all I try in New York then I will try California and then all other parts of the country to find an agent. I figured I would start at the top of the list with the big agents and go down the list until one accepts my work. Its been a challenge but I am determined not to give up. I started on a sequel novel that goes along with the first novel but can be understood without reading the first book.

Today, I wrote my first query letter. It was a challenge and took a few hours. I looked up YA agent lists online and selected a few that are accepting submissions. I emailed a few and will be mailing off more as I run across them.

Welcome to my website. I have been researching the book publishing process for several months and more specifically book publishing for young adult fiction. If you have any comments on book publishing please feel free to post. Also, if you have any questions on agents, the book publishing market, or sources for my site, I would be happy to help. Thanks!
